Sustainable servicing: FreshGround partners with PedalMe

We were inspired to partner with PedalMe for deliveries in London because they champion a ‘faster, cheaper, greener’ ethos. They offer a better alternative to van couriers clogging up the capital. Their riders transport equipment on E-cargo bikes, carrying up to 150kg with electric assistance. Instead of idling in traffic and emitting CO₂, these ultra-slick bikes glide through London’s streets, ensuring quicker, more eco-friendly deliveries.
‘No diesel emissions, no congestion charges, and no getting stuck in traffic.’ (PedalMe)

They deliver things like “flowers, food, beer barrels, sofas, bicycles, even mattresses”. And of course “a lot of coffee”.
‘Speed and sustainability are core components of our servicing. When the opportunity to partner with PedalMe arose, it was a no-brainer. It gives us another string to our bow when it comes to meeting our client’s needs.’ (Clive Barnes, Head of Client Care @ FreshGround)
PedalMe does not employ its riders on zero hours contracts, and riders are paid hourly wages along with holiday pay, sick pay and NI contributions. They set themselves apart from other employers in the ‘gig economy’ by providing these fair and employee-focused conditions.
How do we use PedalMe:
When a London client calls, our client care team jumps into action. If an extra part is needed, a PedalMe rider zooms over in minutes for rapid-response service. These skilled riders effortlessly navigate London’s congestion while working in tandem with our engineers. The process is seamless: our engineer meets the rider at the client site, collects the necessary parts, and promptly services your coffee machine or water dispenser. This efficient, coordinated approach ensures your operations never miss a beat.
How it actually works:
When PedalMe rider Ant received a call, he immediately set off on his PedalMe bike to deliver a “Billi extension kit” to FreshGround engineer Pat, who was waiting at our client Nestle. Departing from our Moorgate hub in EC2M 6TX, Ant navigated through the city and arrived at Nestle on Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3BP in just 27 minutes (even with a few photo stops along the way).
‘The feeling of running past a busy line of traffic with the clock ticking is wonderful, you feel completely disconnected from the stress and panic of the roads yet also totally tuned in to the flow of the city.’ (Hugo King-Irwin, PedalMe driver)
