Choosing Your Office Water Dispenser – A GUIDE
Alex | June 22, 2022
Staying hydrated has a direct impact on your team’s health and wellbeing. In the UK, it is recommended we drink 6-8 glasses of water per day which is roughly 1.2 litres. Although it’s important to note that we can get hydration from other fluids so soft drinks, squash, fruit juice and even tea and coffee all count.
Hydration plays a key role in our bodies functioning optimally and it can support your team in being more alert, productive and energised at work. These are some important qualities that can help create a positive workplace culture. Because of this, you’d be right to ensure your team has access to fresh, filtered water. Alongside a quality coffee experience, the water source you provide your employees is equally important.
So now’s the time to ditch that old, bulky plastic water cooler in the corner of your office and replace it with a modern, efficient water dispenser. We explain how best to choose the perfect water dispenser and what you need to consider.
How many water dispensers do I need?
For this, you’ll need to work out how many people will be using each office water point. If you’re considering a cooler, we’d recommend one for every 20 employees on average. However undercounter water taps can support many more users, usually around 60. If your whole team is planning on grabbing a drink at the same time, e.g. first thing or at lunchtime, it may make sense to have multiple points they can access. Our team will happily work with you to calculate the most efficient water dispensing solution for you.
It’s also important to consider dispense height and output volume. Will you be filling cups, glasses and water bottles? Or jugs and carafes for meetings and events for example? If you’ll be using your water dispensers for high volume fills in a short amount of time, you’ll need a water dispenser with high output and a fast recovery time. This T2 water dispenser tap would fit the bill, offering a comfortably tall dispense height.
Chilled, ambient, sparkling, hot?
Today’s modern water dispensers are plumbed directly into the mains water so you don’t need to fight with huge, bulky plastic bottles. These are called POU dispensers – meaning Point Of Use. Many POU water dispensers give you the option to choose from chilled, boiling, sparkling or ambient filtered water. In our experience, it’s best to give your team all options for greater flexibility and convenience while they’re working. As we’ve mentioned, hydration is a key factor in office productivity. And studies show that even mild dehydration, with a body water loss of 1–2
Hygiene and sanitisation
In recent years, there’s been an increasing focus on hand hygiene and cleanliness in the workplace. As water cooler dispensers are frequently in use by multiple workers, they can be a hotspot for pathogens. We recommend that you encourage your staff sanitise their hands before touching any shared appliance to help minimise transmission. All our water cooler dispensers and office taps are one-touch, and the non-porous surfaces are extremely easy to wipe clean. Some of our coolers can also be operated by footswitch or an app, for hands-free control.
